On Wednesday October 16th, 2024, at approximately 3:30a.m., Officers responded to 6515 Ameriplex Drive (Camaco) in reference to a report of shots fired outside of the building. Upon arrival, officers discovered a twenty-two-year-old Burns Harbor man in the employee parking area who was deceased. Witnesses report that during shift change there was a verbal argument between the deceased, who is an employee of the business, and the suspect prior to the shooting. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Detectives have identified a person of interest and officers are in a neighboring community attempting to locate this person

La Porte County started the Broadband Task Force in 2019 with the intention of improving service to residents and businesses. Through thoughtful and intentional partnership with Internet Providers, additional service areas are being added to their networks. On October 9th, 2024 Surf Broadband was awarded funding from Indiana Connectivity, round 11, to serve 50+ currently underserved households. South Shore Line westbound passengers destined for Van Buren St. Station are advised they will begin utilizing a temporary platform at Van Buren St. beginning Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, through Oct. 27, 2024. The temporary platform will be in use while one of Metra’s four tracks is taken out of service to accommodate a joint construction project between SSL and Metra. In response to ongoing train service adjustments, the South Shore Line announces it will extend its “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” monthly ticket promotion for November 2024. All monthly tickets purchased for the month of November 2024 will remain valid for December 2024. Passengers purchasing a paper November monthly ticket should plan to keep that ticket and use it through December, and passengers purchasing a digital November monthly ticket via the mobile app will see a December ticket uploaded to their accounts prior to Dec. 1.
