 WEEKEND/HOLIDAY TRAIN SCHEDULE:  Passengers are advised that the South Shore Line will continue to operate Lakeshore Corridor and Monon Corridor service on a WEEKEND/HOLIDAY train schedule Monday, June 29, through Friday, July 3, 2026. June 27-28 and July 4-5 will remain weekend/holiday service as scheduled. This temporary operational change is a result of a June 24 freight train derailment and subsequent power loss near East Chicago. Crews continue to work diligently at the scene, which originally resulted in temporary suspension of all South Shore Line train service on June 24. A driver was airlifted after crashing during a police pursuit, according to the Portage Police Department. On Friday, officers were dispatched to an address on Fiesta Avenue in reference to complaints of threats and a protection order violation.  At that time, officers were unable to locate the suspect. At around 3:45 p.m. officers were dispatched back to the residence for the same complaint.  As officers arrived in the area, the suspect vehicle was observed traveling away from the residence.  The initial responding officer checked on the complainant and provided the description of the suspect’s vehicle to other officers. The City of La Porte Park and Recreation Department has shared information that the LaPorte County Health Department issued a Swim with Caution Advisory for Kiwanis-Teledyne Park. The water tested Thursday showed above satisfactory E. coli bacteria levels in this location. All other areas of Pine and Stone lakes tested within the satisfactory range. Under the Swim with Caution, the Health Department recommends patrons avoid swallowing water and shower immediately upon returning from the lake. La Porte, IN - The Kiwanis Club of La Porte will host the Run for Riley 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, July 4, inviting the community to start Independence Day with fitness and fundraising for Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. The annual event raises funds to support pediatric care and services provided by Riley Children’s Hospital. All net proceeds benefit the hospital and its mission to serve children throughout Indiana.
