The Michigan City Police Department continues to investigate the series of armed robberies that occurred between April 28th and April 30th, 2026, involving food delivery drivers. As a result of an operation conducted during the evening on May 1st by Michigan City police officers and detectives, 26-year-old Michigan City resident Julius Harris was taken into custody. Probable cause was found by LaPorte County Circuit Court Magistrate Pamela Munsey on May 4th to charge Harris with three (3) counts of Robbery (Level 3 Felony). I-94 westbound will have alternating lane closures between mile marker 30-36 (east and west of U.S. 421) on or after Tuesday, May 5 to set up a new traffic configuration. Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic layouts between 9pm-5am. This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled. Starting on or after the morning of May 6, the left two lanes of westbound I-94 will be closed for resurfacing with two travel lanes shifted to the right. The ramps at exit 34 for U.S. 421 will remain open. This traffic configuration will be in place for approximately two weeks.

In Lake County an INDOT contractor will begin construction on a reduced conflict intersection (RCI) at U.S. 41 and 151st Ave on or after Monday, May 4. For the first week, crews will have lane shifts to conduct pre-phase work, including construction of a temporary ditch to allow drainage within the median. In the Town of Porter, Waverly Road will be closed between Hjelm Road and Ballard Drive from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, May 4. Indiana American Water Company will be installing water services for three new homes on Waverly Road, according to a Facebook post from the Town of Chesterton. As a result of an operation conducted yesterday evening by Michigan City Police officers and detectives, a person of interest has been taken into custody. This operation was the result of coordinated investigative efforts, including follow-up on leads and review of available evidence. At this time, the investigation remains active, and additional details will be released as they become available.
