The Michigan City High School (MCHS) Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) continues to support the Michigan City community. This year, the MCHS MCJROTC has supported nearly 50 different community service projects. On Friday evening, April 17, cadets assisted in the distribution of food to needy families at the Sacred Heart Food Pantry in Michigan City. The following day, Saturday, April 18, JROTC split its forces. U.S. 30 to close for railroad work in Dyer LAKE COUNTY - CSX Railroad will close U.S. 30 at their crossing between Hart St and Calumet Ave on or after Monday, April 27. All lanes of U.S. 30 will be closed in this location for approximately 6 days while CSX conducts work on their crossing. The closure will be confined to the railroad crossing, and local access will be maintained up to that point. Through traffic should seek alternate routes. The detour will follow U.S. 41/Indianapolis Blvd, 45th St/Glenwood Lansing Rd, and Illinois Route 83.

The Michigan City Police Department is offering two free Community CPR Training classes this year to help residents gain lifesaving skills on Saturday, May 2 and Saturday, Sept. 12. These classes will take place from 8:30 AM – 12:30 p.m. at the MCPD Community Room. The classes provide hands-on training that can prepare you to respond during a cardiac emergency and potentially save a life. Community members interested in learning CPR are encouraged to attend. News Release by Indiana Family and Social Services Administration: INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) Thursday announced findings from comprehensive audits of five Home- and Community-Based Services Attendant Care (ATTC) providers. The audits identified $198,031,230.18 in extrapolated improper payments (including interest) and systemic compliance failures across the review period of January 1, 2022 through March 31, 2025.  The audits were initiated after ATTC program expenditures increased by more than $150 million between 2021 and 2022 — a spike not supported by changes in member need or program structure. On Thursday, April 23rd, Natalee Stewart pled Guilty for stealing over 90,000 dollars from American Legion Post #451 in Michigan City. Ms. Stewart pled Guilty as part of a plea agreement, in which she agreed to immediately pay over 30,000 dollars to the Post, and will make monthly payments on the remaining over 60,000 dollars.
