Soil sampling program available for Hoosier farmers

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) and partners throughout the state have worked with the Gulf Hypoxia Program (GHP) to develop a no-cost program with a focus on increasing the knowledge and use of soil sampling as a nutrient management practice to benefit farm operations. State Road 104 to close between Stillwell and Walkerton

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Inc. will close State Road 104 between County Road 525 South and County Road 700 South on or after Monday, March 3. State Road 104 will be closed for bridge work at the Kankakee River through mid-June. Motorists should seek alternate routes. The official detour will follow State Road 4 and State Road 23.

Sewer/Roadway Repair Status on White Oak Drive in Michigan City

In Michigan City, a local contractor has completed emergency repairs to the sanitary sewer system on White Oak Drive, south of Greenwood Avenue.  The emergency repairs were needed to fix a failing manhole that contributed to a severe dip in the White Oak Drive roadway. The City anticipates the asphalt plants will reopen in early April. In the interim, with the option of repaving the roadway cut with asphalt currently not available to the city, in consultation with the City Engineer’s Office the Sanitary District of Michigan City has instructed that the roadway repair be temporarily completed with compacted aggregate

Pedestrian struck and killed by train at South Calumet Road grade crossing in Chesterton

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train at the Norfolk Southern grade-crossing on South Calumet Road in Downtown Chesterton Friday evening, Friday, Feb. 28, the Town of Chesterton reported to their Facebook page Friday night. Hoosier Helper Vehicle Struck While Assisting Motorist on I-80

Gary- This morning at approximately 7:00 a.m., an INDOT Hoosier Helper stopped on I-80/94 eastbound at the 7.7 mile-marker to assist a stranded motorist with changing a flat tire on the right shoulder. This location is east between Burr and Grant St. The Hoosier Helper vehicle had all of its rear-facing emergency lights activated while the tire was being changed. A body was found on I-65 near Crown Point. The latest from The Indiana State Police-Lowell Post. Crown Point- This morning at 9:20 a.m., a cleanup crew was working on I-65. As they were working along the ramp from U.S. 231 to southbound I-65, they located a body laying in the west ditch.
