According to the Town of Chesterton- Motorist charged with OWI after driving through scale house on I94 just east of Chesterton A motorist was arrested Saturday night, Jan. 18, after driving through the scale house serving eastbound I-94, located just east of the Ind. 49 exit, the Indiana State Police is reporting. According to the ISP, the motorist drove her 2022 Chevrolet “through the entrance to the scale house at a high rate of speed,” “struck the metal entrance gate,” then “continued through the scale lanes, colliding with several street signs and light poles,” before coming to rest “on the

Yesterday morning deputies were advised of a stolen vehicle traveling within in the city limits of La Porte. The vehicle, a gray Buick Encore, had recently been reported as stolen to authorities in Porter County. At approximately 7:30 AM, Deputy Justin Phillips located the stolen vehicle traveling east on McClung Road. A high-risk traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of McClung Road and Park Street. LAKE COUNTY COURTHOUSE EMPLOYEE TARGETED IN ARREST WARRANT SCAM FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fraudsters are at it again in Lake County, Indiana.  This time, they targeted an employee at the Lake County Courthouse with a phony arrest warrant demanding $8500. The fake order of arrest threatens to arrest the employee for failure to appear in court and warns that the bail amount required is $8500.  It even has a State of Indiana seal at the top and a sheriff’s department star near the bottom. New Jersey Man Sentenced to 78 Months in Prison For Drug Offense SOUTH BEND – Juan Aquino, 53 years old, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty after pleading guilty to possessing with intent to distribute 500 or more grams of cocaine, announced United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson. Aquino was sentenced to 78 months in prison followed by 4 years of supervised release. According to documents in the case, in December 2023 Aquino obtained four kilograms of cocaine from Colorado and was transporting it back to New Jersey in hidden vehicle

City Hall and all other Michigan City municipal offices will be CLOSED to the public on Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The Michigan City Transit and Refuse departments also will be nonoperational on Monday, meaning no bus service and no trash collection.
