Gov. Holcomb directs flags to be flown at half-staff

Governor Eric Holcomb is directing flags to be flown at half-staff in honor and remembrance of Senator Diane Feinstein per President Biden. "Flags should be lowered to half-staff statewide as a mark of respect for Sen. Feinstein and her service as a United States Senator," Holcomb's office said in a press release. "Flags should be lowered immediately until a date of interment is released." Gov. Holcomb is asking businesses and residents in Indiana to lower their flags as well.

Juvenile facing delinquency charge of intimidation in incident at Chesterton High School

A delinquency charge of intimidation has been filed against a 16-year-old junior after the Chesterton Police Department said that he brought a “realistic-looking” Airsoft gun to Chesterton High School Wednesday morning, the Chesterton Police announced on their Facebook page. A lockdown was put into place at Chesterton High School at approximately 9:30 a.m., while the Chesterton Police Department investigated. At approximately 10:15 a.m. the CPD reported that the lockdown had been lifted. The student was reportedly transported to the Porter County Juvenile Services Center. 2 Illinois suspects arrested after leading officers on pursuit throughout northwest Indiana

Two Illinois residents were arrested Wednesday after leading police on a pursuit and allegedly tossing packages of marijuana out the window along the way. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department says it all started just after noon, when a detective with the department’s Highway Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Durango SUV on westbound I-94 in LaPorte County.  Police say the driver of the SUV had committed several traffic violations and as the detective got out of his vehicle to approach the SUV, the driver fled at a high rate of speed westbound on I-94. 2023 Stuff A Bus effort restocks The Salvation Army of Michigan City’s food pantry for the fall season. Donation results include 4,500 pounds of donated non-perishable food/hygiene items, 381 meat vouchers (valued at $5 each), and $1300 in cash donations. The Indiana State Police Bremen Post is reminding Hoosier motorists that fall harvest is rapidly approaching and that there will be an increase in agricultural equipment on the roads. Motorist injured after crash on State Road 49 

A motorist was injured Tuesday morning, in a three-vehicle accident on Ind. 49 in Washington Township, the Town of Chesterton reported on their Facebook page. According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Police, at around 8 a.m. the motorist, operating a Jeep SUV, was southbound on Ind. 49 when, south of County Road 600 North, she crossed the grass median and struck two other vehicles northbound on Ind. 49. Woman seriously injured after van crashes into dump truck in LaPorte County

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. — The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after three people were injured, including one critically, after a van crashed into a dump truck Monday evening. Deputies were dispatched Monday evening just after 6:05 p.m., to the intersection of State Road 2 and County Road 500 West, in reference to a personal injury crash. Franciscan Health hospitals reaccredited as ACC Chest Pain Centers

1 seriously injured in multiple vehicle crash on I-65

HOBART, Ind. – One person was seriously injured, and four others went to the hospital after a multiple vehicle crash Monday afternoon on I-65. At about 3:45 p.m., calls were received about a multi-vehicle crash with injuries that was blocking all lanes of I-65 southbound at the 254.7 mile-marker. Four injured in Lake County crash

A driver and a juvenile passenger were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Cedar Lake this past Saturday, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez. Just after 12 p.m., police officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department responded to a one-vehicle crash at 10477 State Line Road. A preliminary investigation indicated the driver of a 2005 Chevy van was headed northbound on State Line Road when the vehicle began to veer off the roadway. State Road 39 to close for rail work near Union Mills

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. - State Road 39 is scheduled to close for rail work in Union Mills. CSX Transportation plans to close State Road 39 at their railroad crossing between Young Road and County Road West 800 South beginning on or after Monday, October 2. State Road 39 will be closed for approximately two weeks in this location while CSX rebuilds their at-grade crossing. Motorists should seek an alternate route. Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department supports NIPSCO Family Day at R.M. Schahfer Generating Station
