The Porter County Expo has issued a scam alert about a scam involving a fake prepaid hot air balloon show. The Chesterton Police Department says it successfully concluded an investigation into a series of spray paint vandalism incidents that occurred between June 3 and June 6. The acts of vandalism were reported at several Chesterton Town Parks and businesses in the 200 block of S. Calumet Avenue, the 200 block of Broadway, and the 1500 block of Broadway. South in La Porte County following two railroad crossing upgrades. INDOT is reminding the public that railroad crossings are not maintained by INDOT. Their INDOT says their Northwest rail coordinator first worked with Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company (the north crossing closer to U.S. 6) to replace their crossing years ahead of schedule and to upgrade the crossing materials. He was then able to work with CSX Transportation to also rebuild their crossing at the same time, avoiding having to close this same stretch of road multiple times.
