HFL donates $750,000 to new Michigan City playground

MICHIGAN CITY – The Fedder’s Alley All-Inclusive Playground and Fitness Park expected to break ground in 2025 is significantly closer to fruition as a result of a $750,000 grant from the Health Foundation of La Porte. “The Fedder’s Alley All-Inclusive Playground and Fitness Park will offer opportunities for all ages and abilities,” Parks Superintendent Shannon Eason said. “I am grateful for the support of Health Foundation of La Porte’s generous financial support. New Fee Structure for Trash Pick-up Starts Jan. 1 in Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY – In response to the inordinate amount of trash and debris that has been set out around town in recent weeks, Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch has deployed multiple Michigan City departments to assist the Refuse Department in addressing its backlog. ISP Requests Public’s Assistance Identifying Vehicle from Interstate Shooting on I-65

Portage officer and K9 help find missing man

A missing man was found on Tuesday thanks to Portage Police Corporal Overton and K9 Bane. Police say the man, who is in his 70s and has dementia, crashed his car and walked away into a wooded area, as he was confused. Several hours later, police were called and made aware of the incident. Overton and K9 Bane arrived on scene to attempt a track into the woods. The man was found 20 minutes and almost half a mile later and was able to get medical help for hypothermia.

Man leads police on pursuit from Indiana to Chicago with child in car

A 26-year-old from Illinois man is facing criminal charges after fleeing from Indiana police into Chicago with a 4-year-old in the vehicle. Just after 5 p.m.Tuesday, Highland police attempted to perform a traffic stop on a BMW in Hammond.  The officers were participating in a joint law enforcement operation involving multiple agencies. Wisconsin man arrested on multiple charges after police pursuit

A Wisconsin man was arrested after a police pursuit according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department. Last Friday Dec. 13, at 11:45 a.m., a deputy was monitoring traffic along the south side of U.S. 20 near Springville Road.  The deputy observed an SUV traveling eastbound at a higher rate of speed than other traffic, and the driver not restrained by a seatbelt.  The Deputy began to travel eastbound on US 20 behind the SUV.  Upon approach of the Fail Road intersection, it was determined the SUV was traveling in excess of the 45 miles per hour posted speed limit.
