Santa and his friends will be collecting donations to benefit The Salvation Army of Michigan City on Saturday, December 21 at the intersection of Highway 421 and Highway 20 in Michigan City between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Now in its fifth year, this “Red Kettle Take Over” is coordinated by the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity, led by Phi Delt members Chuck Krause and Tony Pecina. A missing man was found on Tuesday thanks to Portage Police Corporal Overton and K9 Bane. Police say the man, who is in his 70s and has dementia, crashed his car and walked away into a wooded area, as he was confused. Several hours later, police were called and made aware of the incident. Overton and K9 Bane arrived on scene to attempt a track into the woods. The man was found 20 minutes and almost half a mile later and was able to get medical help for hypothermia.

A 26-year-old from Illinois man is facing criminal charges after fleeing from Indiana police into Chicago with a 4-year-old in the vehicle. Just after 5 p.m.Tuesday, Highland police attempted to perform a traffic stop on a BMW in Hammond.  The officers were participating in a joint law enforcement operation involving multiple agencies. The driver fled and Highland police officers initiated a pursuit.  Police officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Lake County's Aviation Unit helicopter assisted as the fleeing driver headed onto Torrence Avenue, then entered I-94 westbound into Illinois. A Wisconsin man was arrested after a police pursuit according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department. Last Friday Dec. 13, at 11:45 a.m., a deputy was monitoring traffic along the south side of U.S. 20 near Springville Road.  The deputy observed an SUV traveling eastbound at a higher rate of speed than other traffic, and the driver not restrained by a seatbelt.  The Deputy began to travel eastbound on US 20 behind the SUV.  Upon approach of the Fail Road intersection, it was determined the SUV was traveling in excess of the 45 miles per hour posted speed limit.

The Queen of All Saints Catholic Church choir will be presenting “Candlelight Christmas Cantata” on Sunday, December 22 at 3 p.m. in the Church.  Queen of All Saints is located on the corner of Barker Avenue and Woodland Avenue in Michigan City.  The presentation is free of charge. A Michigan City man was arrested on charges of Possession of Child Pornography as a result of an investigation by the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). The arrest, which occurred on Dec. 12, was the result of an investigation into numerous CyberTipline reports sent to the Indiana State Police ICAC Task Force from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).  The tips ultimately led to a search warrant being served by the Indiana State Police, with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations, at a residence located in the 4000 block of Breckenridge Avenue
