Michigan City Area Schools is now accepting applications for a program designed to boost community engagement and give the public a deeper understanding of its operations. The MCAS Ambassador Program is a seven-session series of interactive workshops that give community members a behind-the-scenes look at district services, finances, operations, curriculum, instruction, and more. Ambassadors meet once a month on a Thursday morning to hear from administrators, staff, and students and take part in hands-on activities at locations across the school district. In April, the first group of 26 Ambassadors completed the program, which was piloted during the 2025-26 school year.

Several local police officers recently graduated from the Northern Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. On Friday several department's congratulated their officers on their Facebook pages. In St. Joseph County, an INDOT contractor will have road closures on State Road 23 between Wolf St in North Liberty and Olive St/Locust Rd in South Bend beginning on or after Wednesday, June 10. Crews will replace six pipes between New Rd and Kern Rd. At the same time, a small structure replacement will also be conducted between U.S. 20/31 and Ireland Rd. The Starke County Sheriff's Office says one person lost their life in a crash Thursday night. According to police, just before 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, deputies, along with personnel from the Knox Fire Department, Bass Lake Fire Department, and Starke County EMS, responded to the area of Toto Road and County Road 300 East regarding a single-vehicle crash involving a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree.
