Purdue University Northwest begins callout for first PNW Alumni Hall of Fame class

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is calling for nominations of impactful alumni to be honored in its first induction of a new PNW Alumni Hall of Fame. The callout, a component of PNW’s ongoing 5-75 Roaring Ahead anniversary celebration, will honor distinguished graduates from PNW and its legacy institutions, Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central. PNW is establishing the Alumni Hall of Fame as part of the yearlong celebration of the fifth year of Purdue Northwest, and the 75th year of both legacy campuses. Suspicious Person Call in the area of Valparaiso High School

The Valparaiso Police have responded and are currently in the surrounding areas of Valparaiso High School, as a report of a person carrying an unknown type of long gun was received at approximately 8:25 a.m.  The report indicated the subject was last seen on Campbell St. walking north in the 2300 block and was never observed on school property.  The report further advised the male was white, 5’9, heavy set, wearing a green jacket.  Police remain in the area looking for the potential subject and no further reports have been received. Indiana State Department of Health COVID county advisory levels updated

The Indiana State Department of health updated their weekly COVID county advisory level map on Wednesday. La Porte, Porter, Lake and St. Joseph counties remain at a score of 1.5, yellow level. Starke County moved from a score of 3, red level to a score of 2.5, orange level. Jasper County remains at a score of 2.5, orange level. Newton County remains at a score of 2, orange level.

South Shore Line: Weekday Eastbound Free Ride promotion extension – through Dec. 31

The South Shore Line says with the continued increase in travelers and commuters returning to activities and work in Chicago, an extension of its current Weekday Eastbound Free Ride promotion. With this extension, weekday (Monday through Friday) eastbound trips will continue to be free throughout the months of November and December 2021. The eastbound free rides initially began Sept. 1, excluding weekends, and will now last through Dec. 31, 2021. Passengers should simply board applicable weekday eastbound trains with no ticket purchase necessary. Please do not activate mobile tickets for weekday eastbound trips. Abortion Complications Reporting Law Goes Into Effect Today In Indiana

The following is a media advisory from Right to Life Indiana: Indiana's abortion complications reporting law goes into effect today, one week after the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals declined to rehear Planned Parenthood's challenge to the law. Abortion businesses had challenged the constitutionality of the “Complications Statute” in Indiana’s Senate Enrolled Act 340, but the Seventh Circuit upheld the law on August 2. Bolt for the Heart in stretch run of fundraising before Hallowrun

In the final week leading up to the third annual Bolt for the Heart Family Run/Walk, dubbed “Hallowrun,” organizers are focused on providing as many automatic external defibrillators for local law enforcement vehicles as possible. Michigan City leaf pickup delayed

The Michigan City Street Department Superintendent Shong Smith has announced that there will be a delay in starting leaf pickup due to the leaves still on the trees in most areas. All residents are encouraged to rake, blow, and/or place their leaves near the street curb along the front of their property. The City says that if residents have branches, they will be picked up along with your leaf piles. The City is asking residents to keep branches separated from leaves. AG Program Holds Initiation and Installation Ceremony at Michigan City High School

Breast cancer survivor Channelle Glover describes herself as someone who is “all about fun, all about life, all about community,” and that didn’t change when she was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 36. Glover, who was a guest speaker at a recent J.A.G. Two arrests in City of La Porte involving hand-pressed fentanyl

Police have announced that 2 arrests have been made involving hand-pressed fentanyl.  The LaPorte County Drug Task Force, The Fugitive Apprehension Street Team (FAST), and La Porte Street Crimes Unit made two arrests as the result of residential search warrants that were executed in the City of La Porte. Taken into custody were 20-year old Jaime Torres, and 20-year-old Pedro Burgos.
