Lake County- Early this morning, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Indiana State Police troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 near the 256.4 mile-marker in the northbound lanes, just north of 61st Avenue. Preliminary investigation indicates the crash involved a wrong-way driver who was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-65 which resulted in a head-on crash. The investigation shows a silver 2022 Toyota was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-65 when it struck a 2016 Ford head-on. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced today that $179.8 million in federal transportation funding is being awarded to 50 cities, towns, and counties in rural portions of Indiana to invest in local road and bridge improvements and sidewalk projects. This morning at 12:29 AM, Deputy Matt Buell was traveling westbound along US 30. He observed an eastbound vehicle approaching him traveling in excess of the 60 miles per hour posted speed limit. The speed of the vehicle was measured at 110 MPH by Deputy Buell’s radar unit.
