Michigan City Housing Authority announced their website is now live. Visit the page at www.emcha.org. The MCHA says you may experience some difficulty in your search, because it's new. U.S. westbound reduced to one lane near Southlake Mall

In Lake County, the Indiana Department of Transportation has given an update that due to a roadway hazard, U.S. 30 westbound will remain reduced to one lane through at least early next week. This area is near Southlake Mall. INDOT says motorists may want to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

Beam Street closures in Town of Porter beginning on July 21

In the Town of Porter, full closures of Beam Street are scheduled to begin on Monday July 21 for a NIPSCO pole project, according to the Town of Chesterton Facebook page. The Town of Porter announced full—though periodic and temporary—closures of Beam Street, beginning on Monday, July 21, as NIPSO undertakes a pole replacement project over I-94. Porter County Health Department to host first-ever Health and Safety Fair

The Porter County Health Department will host their first-ever Health and Safety Fair on Saturday, August 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Portage High School- Portage Indiana. This free event is open to all ages and will include community vendor booths, free health services, safety demonstrations, giveaways, food trucks and family-friendly activities. Stolen vehicle recovered, suspect in custody in La Porte

La Porte police officers recovered a stolen van and arrested the suspect on Tuesday. Officers were dispatched to E Street early Tuesday for a reported vehicle theft. A witness saw a man flee in the van around 6:30 a.m. Using Flock cameras, officers located the vehicle on McClung Road. A felony stop was initiated, and the driver, Joshua D. Murray, was taken into custody. Murray is facing charges including theft - vehicle / prior conviction, resisting law enforcement causes bodily injury and motor vehicle- driving while suspended- prior suspension within 10 years. The City of Michigan City gave the following roadwork notice for today, July 18: Milling (the removal of the surface) will be done on: -- Salem Court from Welnetz Road to Coolspring Avenue -- Westwood Drive from Southwind Drive to US 421 Paving will be done on: -- Southwind Drive from Ohio Street to the East Dead End -- South Court from Ohio Street to Southwind Drive -- South Court from the Dead End to Larkspur Lane Roads will remain open to traffic with traffic control while crews are working. La Porte Police SWAT apprehends man with multiple felony warrants

The La Porte Police Department activated its SWAT Team to arrest a man who had multiple felony warrants. On Tuesday morning the La Porte Police Department SWAT Team, with assistance from members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, apprehended 21-year-old Kyron Meriweather-Burks on multiple outstanding felony arrest warrants. The charges include domestic battery, strangulation, and armed robbery. Police said that due to Meriweather-Burks' extensive criminal history, known propensity to carry firearms, and past incidents of fleeing law enforcement, the decision was made to deploy the La Porte Police SWAT Team to ensure a safe and secure

Natural Resources Commission approves carbon sequestration rules

The Indiana Natural Resources Commission (NRC) Wednesday granted final adoption of rules overseeing carbon sequestration and carbon dioxide transmission pipelines. Carbon sequestration involves the capture of carbon dioxide produced through industrial facilities and its injection deep underground into porous rock, with the purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In 2022, the Indiana General Assembly passed legislation (HEA 1209-2022) to allow for carbon sequestration projects in Indiana, and in 2023, passed legislation (HEA 1626-2023) directing the DNR to adopt rules for their implementation.
