Ogden Dunes has been awarded funding through the Community Crossings Matching Grant and will soon begin another road paving project in town. In preparation, two new dry wells have already been installed on the north side of Shore Drive at Diana Road to assist with storm water mitigation. Milling is scheduled to begin on Sept. 16 and should take approximately two days to complete. Once milling has been completed, paving will begin and should take approximately 5-7 days to complete. The LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls on August 29th at approximately 07:44 PM regarding a personal injury motor vehicle crash on West US Highway 12 at County Line Road that involved a sport utility vehicle and motorcycle. Multiple officers from Uniform Patrol Shift 2 quickly responded to the scene and noticed that both operators involved in the crash were suffering from personal injuries. Officers provided life saving measures to the motorcyclist and first aid to the driver of the sport utility vehicle. An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will close State Road 16 between County Road 280 West and County Road 180 West on or after Tuesday, Sept. 3. State Road 16 will be closed through late Oct. for a bridge deck overlay preventative maintenance project over Bice Ditch. Motorists should seek alternate routes. LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will have alternating lane closures on State Road 4/Monroe St between State Road 2/Lincolnway and Boyd Blvd starting on or after Tuesday, September 3. Work will include patching and resurfacing, curb and gutter replacement where necessary, and ADA compliant sidewalk ramps. The roadway will be reduced to one lane and flaggers will direct traffic in the area where work is occurring. Temporary closures for sidewalks and intersecting crossroads will also be necessary during ADA ramp reconstruction. This project will be ongoing through late November. Mrvan to highlight the use of federal funding for the Michigan City Police Department. The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that recently, several bronze markers located on headstones of deceased veterans in the Union Mills and Rolling Prairie Cemeteries have been stolen.  The stolen makers are those that are affixed to the back of a headstone, similar to that of the provided picture. “You are encouraged to visit the gravesites of any family members and friends who are deceased veterans with similar bronze markers to insure theirs has not been tampered with and is still present,” the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “If you observe suspicious activity around

The Michigan City Department of Water Works will begin the semi-annual fire hydrant flushing on Monday Sept. 9. This is done to insure the hydrants are in working order for the fall and winter months. The Department of Water Works says the program should take approximately eight weeks to complete. The department also says if anyone should experience any discoloration in their water, they should let the water run for a short time and the water will clear.

The Indiana Secured School Safety Board (the Board) today approved the distribution of more than $24 million to support school safety initiatives in all 92 counties.
