The City of Michigan City has announced that effective immediately, two motels in Michigan City—Ramada by Wyndham, located at 5820 Franklin Street, and Comfort Inn & Suites, located at 100 W. Kieffer Road—have been ordered closed indefinitely due to multiple unresolved city and fire code violations. "The business licenses for both properties have expired, and the City will not consider renewal until all cited violations are fully addressed by licensed contractors," the city said in a press release. A 6-year-old was rescued by two good Samaritans from the water at Porter Beach on Thursday. Just before 1 p.m., Porter Police and Fire were dispatched to Porter Beach in reference to a water rescue. It was reported that a 6 year old child on a kayak had drifted about 200 yards from shore and the kayak was continuing to float away. During the response, it was reported the child fell off the kayak and was in the water with no life jacket. Porter Fire Chief Jay Craig arrived on scene along with a Town of Porter Police Officer. This initiative aims to develop evidence-based recommendations to contain the rapidly increasing Medicaid costs associated with ABA therapy while ensuring continued high-quality care for thousands of Hoosier children and young adults. Indiana’s Medicaid expenditures for ABA therapy have grown significantly, from $14.4 million in 2017 to $120 million in 2019. Michigan City Area Schools has announced plans to participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Free meals will be made available to all children 18 years of age and under and to persons over 18 years who are enrolled in a state-approved educational program for the mentally or physically disabled. Free meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children. Children must be present to receive their meals.  There will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Free meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows:

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will begin bridge work on I-65 between Ridge Road and I-94 on or after Thursday, May 15. Bridge deck overlay preventative maintenance projects will take place at three locations on I-65: over 35th Avenue, over the ramp from I-65 to westbound I-94, and over the Chicago, Ft. BEVERLY SHORES, Ind., -- Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after a fisherman discovered a body in the water Saturday morning approximately 2 miles offshore from Central Beach on Lake Michigan. Shortly after 8 a.m., officers arrived on the scene and found the body of an unidentified person. Due to the condition of the body, the person appears to have been missing for an extended period of time. The traffic configuration schedule for U.S. 20 between C.R. 250 E and Oak Knoll Rd has been updated. Starting today, the right outside lane is closed in each direction. No left turns are permitted through the work zone, including at county road intersections and driveways. Around early July (if not sooner), the eastbound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic and the westbound lanes closed for the next phase of construction.
