NIPSCO seeks grant applications for public safety education and responder training

One dead after two teens pulled from Lake Michigan at Porter Beach

Two teens were pulled from Lake Michigan at Porter Beach Tuesday and police later announced one of them had died. According to the Porter Police, emergency service personnel were dispatched to Porter Beach at around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a 14-year-old female and an 18-year-old male in need of rescue while swimming. During the incident, a Good Samaritan pulled the 14-year-old female out of the water. However, the 18-year-old male remained lost for approximately 20 minutes before he was pulled to shore. Roadwork projects taking place through Saturday in Portage

The City of Portage has announced two roadwork alerts. Eighth named chair added to the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra

Body of woman recovered from Robinson Lake in Lake County

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after recovering the body of a female from Robinson Lake in Lake County on Sunday. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the beach area near the 5200 block of Liverpool Road in Hobart at 12:53 p.m. for a report of two swimmers struggling in the water. A male was rescued by a witness. A woman went missing in the water and did not resurface. State Road 23 closed for railroad work in Starke county

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. - Norfolk Southern plans to close their railroad crossing on State Road 23 in Ober between County Road East 200 South and County Road East 225 South for beginning stages of their upcoming rail construction project. I-80/94 concrete restoration work moving to phase 3

New Suspect Arrested In Jail Lobby Fire Investigation

Based on new information gathered by Lake County Sheriff’s Department investigators, a new suspect has been arrested in connection with the jail lobby fire that occurred on June 5, 2023.  The suspect is identified as 40-year-old Terrance Craig, of Gary.  He was booked into the Lake County Jail June 12, 2023. Persons of interest in custody after Lake County man found deceased in Portage Township

Two persons of interest were in custody in Hamilton County, Ohio, following an investigation into the death of a Lake County man found in the Chustak Public Fishing Area, on Tuesday, according to a Facebook post by the Chesterton police Department. According to the post, the deceased was identified as Lake County resident Derek William Hartz, whose body was found at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday off a small trail in the 76-acre fishing area, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said. Franciscan Health is partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana to provide kid-friendly meal kits that encourage family time around the dinner table. The Fellowship and Meals (FAM) Kits are distributed monthly to members of the Boys and Girls Clubs in Hammond and Gary.
