The Michigan City Police Department released the following information on parking restrictions for the XInsurance Great Lakes Grand Prix Boat Parade: “Due to the 2023 XInsurance Great Lakes Grand Prix Parade, there will be NO PARKING on the west side of Pine Street from U.S. Hwy 12 to 10th Street, NO PARKING on 10th Street between Pine Street and Franklin Street, NO PARKING on Franklin Street from 10th Street to 4th Street, and NO PARKING on 7th Street from Pine Street to Washington Street. The Valparaiso Police Department announced the retirement of Sergeant Perry Stone, who has served the City of Valparaiso since January 16, 1986. Stone began his career with VPD as a “Special Officer” before being officially sworn-in on August 1, 1987, as a Probationary Patrol Officer. During his tenure, Stone earned the ranks of Corporal, Sergeant, and Detective Sergeant. The City of Portage announced that through Aug. 30, the roads listed below will have rolling lane closures as their crack sealing contractor will be filling cracks in the asphalt pavement. The City said on its Facebook page to expect delays periodically. PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor  will close State Road 2 just west of the intersection of State Road 2 and C.R. N 400 E on or after Monday, August 7. State Road 2 will be closed through approximately the end of November for a small structure replacement. INDOT says motorists should seek an alternate route. The official detour will follow State Road 49, U.S. 6 and State Road 2.

On July 28, 2023, Pedro Burgos was sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading Guilty to Dealing Fentanyl. Deputy Prosecutors Julianne Havens and Atley Price, working with the Laporte County Drug Task Force, brought this case to a success conclusion. Mr. Burgos was arrested as part of Operation Play Pen, a years-long effort to identify and disrupt networks of fentanyl coming into Laporte County. Prosecuting Attorney Sean Fagan said: “Fentanyl is a scourge in our County, and it weakens us a community.  Most people don’t realize the long hours and painstaking effort that goes into identifying suppliers and dealers.

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after the body of an 18-year-old man was pulled Saturday from Lake Michigan in Lake County Saturday. At 2:55 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to Miller Beach for a missing person presumed to be in Lake Michigan. Multiple agencies with dive teams responded to the scene to search. Search efforts were hampered due to a north wind, with three to six-foot waves creating dangerous rip currents in the area. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has extended the Air Quality Action Day (AQAD) forecast through Friday, July 28, for all of Indiana. Air quality is expected to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (Orange) level. IDEM is forecasting high ozone levels due to a significant increase in temperatures across the state and a continued air mass from Canadian wildfires in the following regions: Central/East Central Indiana, including the cities of: Bloomington, Brookville, Columbus, Frankfort, Indianapolis, Greensburg, Kokomo, Lebanon, Martinsville, Muncie, Richmond and all other cities within the area. North Central Indiana, including the cities of: Elkhart, Goshen, Knox,
