State Road 49 to close south of Kouts

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana Department of Transportation contractor LaPorte Construction Co., Inc. will close State Road 49 between C.R. 1050 S and C.R. 1125 S on or after Monday, May 12. State Road 49 will be closed through late June for a bridge deck overlay preventative maintenance project at Reeves Ditch. Motorists should seek alternate routes. The official detour will follow State Road 8, U.S. 231 and State Road 10. I-65 to have overnight lane closures near State Road 14

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Rieth-Riley Construction will have overnight lane closures on I-65 from mile marker 217 to 223 (between State Road 10 and State Road 114) beginning on or after Monday, May 12. I-65 will be reduced to one lane in the area where work is occurring during the overnight hours of approximately 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. This project includes pavement patching and an Ultra-Thin Bonded Wearing Course (UTBWC) surface treatment. UTBWC is a pavement preservation treatment where a thin overlay is applied over structurally sound pavement to address surface issues like cracking.

The Ogden Dunes Police Department is reminding residents that parking restrictions are currently in effect through September 30. Permits are required to park within the restricted area. Michigan City Man Sentenced to 210 Months in Prison For Controlled Substance Offense SOUTH BEND –  Timothy Hampton, 50 years old, of Michigan City, Indiana, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty after pleading guilty to distributing methamphetamine, announced Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay. Hampton was sentenced to 210 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release. According to documents in the case, in August and September 2024 Hampton distributed high-purity methamphetamine to buyers. The following is a joint statement being released by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office and the New Prairie United School Corporation: "This afternoon at 3:16 PM, deputies responded to the intersection of US 20 and Fail Road reference a multi-vehicle crash. Paving project prep in Swanson North Subdivision in Portage

The City of Portage says their paving contractor has placed no parking signs throughout the Swanson North subdivision in preparation for a paving project. The City of Portage says for the next week or two, they are removing and replacing the existing curbs and sidewalk ramps with new ADA compliant curbs and sidewalk ramps. Once the concrete work is completed, they will start the milling process and laying new asphalt in the neighborhood.

Michigan City High School Band and Choir Programs Strike Gold at ISSMA Concert Festivals

On the weekend of April 25, Michigan City High School band and choral students participated in their respective Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) concert festivals. Students performed exceptionally well, and their gold ratings marked important honors within the history of both departments.
