Chesterton Police Department seeking hit and run driver

Chesterton police are seeking a hit and run driver. On Tuesday morning in the area of Railroad and Kelle Drive, a blue Tesla sedan was involved in a property damage crash. Police say the driver of the blue Tesla was described as an Asian male, 50-60 years of age. He also mentioned that he was a doctor, according to the Chesterton Police Department. Anyone with information that could assist in identifying the driver of the blue Tesla, are asked to call Cpl. LaMotte at 219-926-1136.

Gary Police K-9 killed during pursuit, man arrested

A Gary Police K-9 was killed during a pursuit Thursday. Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.made the following statement: “It is with great sadness that I share the passing of beloved Gary Police Department K-9 Falco. He was shot and killed this afternoon during a police foot pursuit near 35th Place and Martin Luther King Drive in Gary. A 29-year-old male is in police custody. He was wanted for aggravated battery and criminal recklessness. The officer involved in the foot pursuit was not injured. Police investigating shooting in Michigan City

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left one person injured Wednesday morning in Michigan City. At 10:53 a.m., deputies were to called to the 300 block of Woodsedge Drive at the Woodland Crossing Apartment Homes in reference to a shooting. Deputies located one gunshot victim and secured the scene.  Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the complex to assist. The early stages of the investigation revealed the victim was an employee of the complex’s contracted law maintenance company.  Police say the victim was approached on foot by a male subject who began shooting

Four-plus decade long employee of La Porte County Sheriff’s Office retires

La Porte County Sheriff Ronald Heeg officially announced the retirement of James Sosinski from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office. Sosinski was hired by the LCSO in January of 1982, as a Jail Deputy.  In April of 1985, he was transferred and promoted to the Merit (Patrol) Division.  During the summer of 1985, Sosinski attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy where he later graduated as a member of Class 85-82. During Sosinski’s career, he attained the ranks of Sergeant, Captain, Major and served as Chief Deputy during former Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer’s two consecutive four-year terms, from January of 2007 to

Indiana Toll Road gives update on 2023 Northwest Indiana Bridge Rehabilitation Project, Exit 10 ramp closures

The Indiana Toll Road says they are making great progress on the Northwest Indiana Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The Toll Road says since construction is moving along at a good pace, they are able to accelerate their project schedule with the closure of the Exit 10 westbound entry and westbound exit ramps, which is ongoing. The exit ramp will re-open on Aug. 31 and the entry ramp will re-open on Sept. 23. Additional details can be found in the photo attached to this story.

Illinois man Arrested after pursuit on I-65

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - An Illinois man was arrested after a pursuit on I-65 Wednesday afternoon, according to the Indiana State Police. At approximately 3:15 p.m., a trooper was patrolling I-65 southbound near the scale barn.  This is approximately 3 miles north of State Road 2 (exit 240).  A citizen notified the trooper of a vehicle that was traveling at 5 mph in the right lane.  The trooper located the vehicle traveling 8 mph in the right lane and attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle to investigate the circumstances of the extremely slow speed. State Road 51 to be closed near Hobart

Two people shot in the 400 block of York Street

An investigation is underway in Michigan City after two people were shot on Friday afternoon. Several 911 calls were received by the dispatch center at around 03:53 p.m. regarding gunshots being fired in the 400 block of York Street. Multiple officers arrived and located two people with gunshot wounds. The first victim was a 36-year-old Michigan City resident with multiple gunshot wounds. The second victim was a 28-year-old Michigan City resident who also had multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided medical care to both victims until EMS arrived. The 36-year-old victim was flown from a nearby landing site to Memorial Hospital
