Shirley Heinze Land Trust has announced a new initiative funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's (NFWF) National Coastal Resilience Fund. The Queen of All Saints Catholic Church choir will be presenting “Candlelight Christmas Cantata” on Sunday, December 22 at 3 p.m. in the Church.  Queen of All Saints is located on the corner of Barker Avenue and Woodland Avenue in Michigan City.  The presentation is free of charge. A Michigan City man was arrested on charges of Possession of Child Pornography as a result of an investigation by the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). The arrest, which occurred on Dec. 12, was the result of an investigation into numerous CyberTipline reports sent to the Indiana State Police ICAC Task Force from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).  The tips ultimately led to a search warrant being served by the Indiana State Police, with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations, at a residence located in the 4000 block of Breckenridge Avenue

Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch of Michigan City and Mayor Tom Dermody of La Porte are both ready for a friendly battle to support The Salvation Army in their annual Battle of the Mayors. On Friday, December 20 the Mayors will compete to see who can raise the most funds in their red kettle. Mayor Angie will be at Al's Supermarket on Karwick Plaza in Michigan City from 10am to 7pm. Mayor Dermody will be at Kroger in La Porte from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. They are asking you to support this event and drop some money in the kettle

Michigan City Animal Control recently provided a donation of food to Gary Animal Control to be used for outreach. The non profit organization Silverstray Social thanked Michelle and Michigan City Animal Control for their donation. Silverstray also announced they will be providing Michigan City Animal Control with microchips so they can microchip pets for their community—completely free of charge. Silverstray says Michigan City Animal Control will collect the necessary information, send it to them, and they’ll ensure every microchip is registered properly.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning (OECOSL) is re-implementing a waitlist for new Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) and On My Way Pre-K (OMWPK) voucher applicants due to significant growth in both programs. At this time, the waitlist will impact new child care voucher applicants. The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra's Holiday at the Pops is this Saturday and tickets are going fast. The Michigan City High School (MCHS) Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) earned a first-place trophy at the Portage military drill meet on Saturday, Dec. 7 in the Color Guard category. The Wolves defeated larger schools, including perennial powerhouse schools Ben Davis and Warren Central from Indianapolis. Three of the four cadets in the Color Guard plan to enter the military. Cadet Major Marcus has enlisted in theMarine Corps for Reconnaissance, which is the Marine equivalent of Navy SEALS or ArmySpecial Forces. Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Matthew Wilson plans to enlist in the Navy for its nuclear submarine program.

In Michigan City, Rieth-Riley Construction is doing road repairs at various locations along Michigan Boulevard between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13. They are asking the public to be cautious of the workers in the area if you have to travel that route.
