South Shore line Information for Notre Dame and Bears games this weekend

This Saturday on the South Shore Line, South Bend Transpo will offer free shuttle bus service between the South Bend International Airport and Notre Dame Stadium for select trains. Eastbound Train 503 arrives at the South Bend Airport at 12:10 p.m. ET. Passengers may then board a Transpo shuttle, which will drop off near the Eck Visitors Center/Bookstore on campus. Westbound trains depart South Bend at 5:45 p.m. ET (Tr 508) and at 10:16 p.m. ET (Tr 510). Transpo will stage at the drop-off location on campus and leave at 8:30 p.m. ET to meet Tr 510. State Troopers involved in three pursuits within five hours

Indiana State Police Lowell Troopers were involved in three vehicle pursuits in just 5 hours Monday. The first took place in Hammond just after 1:00 p.m., when a member of the All Crimes Policing Team attempted to stop a Ford Fusion for several traffic violations.  The pursuit was terminated around Parrish and 165th Street when the officers lost sight of the vehicle.  A search of the area resulted in officers locating the vehicle parked in a nearby apartment complex.  The vehicle was impounded. The investigation is ongoing. The second pursuit took place in Michigan City at around 5:12 p.m.  Troopers

Overnight lane closures – I-94 in Porter County

In Porter County, the two left lanes of eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed between State Road 249 and State Road 149 (MM 19-22) from approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday, to 6 a.m. Thursday. The night time lane closures are necessary to complete joint construction at the bridges over Salt Creek.

Northwest Health adds two physicians in La Porte

Northwest Health is welcoming two new primary care physicians. Asma Aziz, M.D., family  medicine, and Sarah Polistico, M.D., pediatrics, have joined Northwest Medical Group and are caring for patients at offices in La Porte.  Dr. Aziz is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She completed a family medicine residency at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan. Stuff a Bus results from over the weekend

The 2021 Stuff A Bus effort secured great results for the MC Salvation Army food pantry. Resulting in 9,480 pounds of donated non-perishable food/hygiene items, 519 meat vouchers (valued at $5 each), and $309.10 in cash donations. In spite of a few lingering obstacles from the continued COVID-19 pandemic, Saturday’s STUFF A BUS event was a success, according to Dorene Martinson, Marketing Director for First Trust Credit Union. Police investigating armed robberies in Michigan City

Michigan City Police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred on Saturday and Monday.  On Sept. 25, at around 9 p.m. Michigan City Police Department was dispatched to Wendy’s located on Franklin St in reference to an armed robbery in progress. Officers responded to the area immediately and spoke to witnesses involved. Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect had entered Wendy’s with a firearm demanding money from employees and fled on foot prior to officer’s arrival. Officers determined that the suspect had fled west on foot. Police said on Monday that detectives continue to interview witnesses, attempt to identify any

Fall Clean Up scheduled for this month in La Porte

Dates have been set for the City of La Porte’s Fall Clean Up, according to La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody. Running Monday, Oct. 18 through Friday, Oct. 22, city residents will be able to discard their large and heavy trash. Michigan City Police Department receives Patriot Award

Michigan City Police Chief Dion Campbell announced Tuesday that the Michigan City Police Department received the “Patriot Award” from the ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve). Chief Campbell was nominated by Corporal Michael C. Elkins, a 10-year veteran of the Michigan City Police Department and Supervisor on Uniform Patrol Shift 2. The award is presented to supervisors who support their employees involved in the National Guard or Reserves. There will be overnight lane closures on eastbound I-80/94 near State Road 912/Cline Ave (MM 2.2-5.7) from 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 28 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 29. Northwest Health offering Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training

Northwest Health Emergency Medical Services will be hosting an EMT-Basic Course from November 8, 2021 to April 13, 2022. Skomac Jr., aka JR. who is wanted for two counts of Burglary, each count a Level 5 Felony. Dialing Area Code Starting Sunday

Beginning on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, everyone in northern Indiana’s 219 and 574 telephone area codes will be required to use 10 digits, rather than seven, to make local phone calls. (For example, callers should start dialing “219-555-5555” or “574-555-5555” instead of “555-5555.”) Local calls made with seven digits will still work until the end of the permissive dialing period on Oct. 24, 2021, which was established to allow everyone time to adjust to the new dialing pattern and to make any required system changes before 10-digit dialing becomes mandatory for local calls. This six-month transition period started in April.

Get to know City of La Porte Firefighters at annual open house

South Shore Line service information for Notre Dame game at Soldier Field

To accommodate passengers attending the Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin football game at 11 a.m. CT Saturday at Soldier Field, the South Shore Line plans to stop select trains at Metra’s 18th Street Station, which connects passengers directly to the Soldier Field entrance via a pedestrian walkway. As 18th Street Station is not a regularly scheduled stop, SSL passengers utilizing 18th St. for this game should purchase tickets for Museum Campus/11th Street. Emergency sewer repairs at 4th Street in Michigan City

The Michigan City Sanitary District’s contractor will be performing emergency sewer repairs to a storm sewer and a sanitary sewer near the 100 block of West 4th Street. West 4th Street is closed between Washington Street and Franklin Street until the repairs are completed. Commuters can use West 5th Street to travel around this closed section of 4th Street.
