I-94 to have daytime lane closures in Porter County

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be resurfacing sections of I-94 resulting in lane closures between State Road 51/U.S. 6 and State Road 249 on or after Wednesday, July 31. Work will be ongoing for approximately one week, with intermittent lane closures during daytime work hours of approximately 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists should be alert for work crews and changing traffic patterns. INDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time when driving through this area and follow traffic directions carefully. Motorists should slow down, exercise caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones.

State Road 110 to have short-term closure

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crews will conduct seal coating operations resulting in a road closure on State Road 110 beginning on or after Monday, July 29. State Road 110 will be closed during daytime work hours for approximately two days. The official detour for this closure will follow U.S. 231 and State Road 10. Through traffic should utilize the detour or seek an alternate route. Local traffic should exercise caution and follow traffic directions carefully in the area where work is occurring. This work is weather dependent, and the schedule is subject to change.

Arts Commission invests in Lubeznik Center for the Arts to strengthen Michigan City through arts and creativity

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Thursday, the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced it has awarded $18,215 to Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) through the Arts Organization Support grant program. During its June 14 Quarterly Business Meeting, the Commission approved funding recommendations for the Arts Project Support and Arts Organization Support grant programs. On July 17th, two white males walked northbound along Fail Road from the area of CR 600 North. They proceeded to a residence in the 6200 north block where they forced entry gaining access to the interior of the home. The homeowner arrived and encountered the criminals inside. The subjects fled and the homeowner gave chase before eventually losing sight of them. A nearby video surveillance system captured the subjects on foot, and eventually leaving the area in a dark colored SUV traveling southbound on Fail Road. I-94 to have lane closures in Porter County

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will have alternating lane closures on I-94 between U.S. 20 and State Road 49 on or after Tuesday, July 30. I-94 will be reduced to two lanes in each direction through late November for three bridge deck overlay preventative maintenance projects through this area. Work will begin with the left shoulder and lane closed for construction and will move to the right for phase two in mid-September. Calumet Avenue closed overnights in Valpo

The City of Valparaiso announced Calumet Avenue will be closed from Bullseye Lake Road to Burlington Beach Road during overnights on tonight (Thursday) and Friday (7/25 and 7/26), beginning at 9:00 p.m., to complete milling and resurfacing of the roadway. The overnight work is designed to minimize disruption to motorists where possible. The final resurfacing is scheduled to take place during the day on Monday, July 29. All dates are weather permitting.

INDOT launches Safe Zones pilot program to improve work zone safety

To protect the lives of motorists and construction workers across the Hoosier State, INDOT announces the official launch of Indiana Safe Zones, a five-year worksite speed control pilot program authorized by House Enrolled Act 1015 during the 2023 legislative session. Starting Wednesday, Aug. 14, camera technology will be deployed in the current I-70 construction zone in Hancock County (MM 95-105).  Deployment will start with a pre-enforcement warning period during which no violations will be issued, but courtesy warnings will be sent. Additional worksites will be added to the program over time. By statute, INDOT may deploy cameras in up to

Arrest made in June shooting on I-80/94

Tuesday morning, detectives with the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division Lowell Post along with officers with the U.S. Marshal’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, served an arrest warrant in the 7000 block of Birch Ave. in Hammond. Arrested was 35-year-old Darrell A. Graham, from Chicago, IL. Graham was arrested without incident. The arrest was a result of an extensive investigation into the interstate shooting that occurred on June 3,2024, along I-80/94 in Hammond. In that shooting, a juvenile sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to their lower extremities. Graham is being charged with two counts of attempted murder, battery
