Franciscan WorkingWell recently donated the sponsorship proceeds from a day-long employer solutions symposium to the Franciscan Health Foundation of Northern Indiana’s Food Insecurity Program. Franciscan WorkingWell hosted a day-long symposium at Avalon Manor on Sept. 12 aimed at helping employers find healthcare solutions. More than 130 attendees representing 75 companies attended the event. The event was free for attendees thanks to the generosity of platinum sponsor Apex Benefits, gold sponsors BD+A Health Informatics and Brown & Brown Insurance and breakfast and lunch sponsors Generate Sales and Marketing and NIPSCO. The Town of Chesterton is enacting a new recreation impact fee schedule. The Town of Chesterton stated the following on their Facebook page: Over the next 10 years, the Town of Chesterton’s population could grow by 1,880 people: From an estimated 14,240 in 2023 to 16,120 in 2033, assuming an average annual growth rate of 1.25 percent and a total of 783 new single-family households. Those are the calculations run by Charles Lehman of Lehman & Lehman, the consultancy retained by the Park Board to prepare a study on the next five-year recreation impact fee to be charged to builders.

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - An INDOT contractor will have lane closures on U.S. 6/State Road 51 over I-94 beginning on or after Monday, Sept. 30. U.S. 6/State Road 51 will be reduced to one lane in each direction through mid-November. Work will begin with the inside left lanes closed in each direction and then switch to the outside right lanes closed around mid-October. There will be shoulder closures on some of the ramps at this interchange, but all ramps will remain open and accessible. NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. - An INDOT contractor will close State Road 16 between County Road 300 East and State Road 55 on or after Monday, September 30. State Road 16 will be closed through mid-October for a bridge deck overlay preventative maintenance project over the Iroquois River. INDOT says motorists should seek alternate routes. The Michigan City Art League is pleased to announce a workshop on oil painting, "Learning to Love Oil Painting", presented by artist Bunny Dimke on Oct. 12.  Bunny is an award winning artist and is also a member of the Art  League. A Michigan City man was arrested following a vehicle pursuit early Tuesday. On Tuesday, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Chief Deputy Matt Wolfe observed a vehicle traveling northbound on County Road 900 West at a high rate of speed. Wolfe caught up to the vehicle and activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop at US 421/Toll Road. The vehicle fled reaching speeds up to 90 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reducing the County Bonus Antlerless Quotas (CBAQ) in Wabash, Porter, and Allen counties from two bonus antlerless deer to one bonus antlerless deer for the coming deer hunting season. This change is a result of the impact of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) on the deer herd in northern Indiana this year. Changes to the CBAQ will not affect the Deer Reduction Zones.
