Crossing at Ohio Street and Tilden Avenue to be repaired in Michigan City

There will be a repair/replacement of the CSX Crossings at Ohio Street and Tilden Avenue in Michigan City, the city says. The city says CSX has finally agreed to make all of the repairs and replacements at both locations. The city says that in speaking directly to the crews at the two sites, the crews are projecting to be fully opened by this Friday, pending any issues that may arise. The city says as soon as the crews give the clearance of completion all of the barricades and detours will be removed and both locations will be open to full

La Porte County Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists reminded to “Click It Or Ticket”

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office will be increasing patrols as part of the national “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign ahead of Memorial Day weekend. For the next three weeks, deputies will be out in full force making sure drivers and passengers are buckled up and children are properly secure. Their goal is to reduce the number of traffic injuries and fatalities from lack of seat belt use, a continuing concern. City of Portage gives update on Founders Square construction

The City of Portage on Monday gave an update to the ongoing construction at Founders Square. The city stated on their Facebook page regarding the construction that “Much of it is completing the finishing touches to the renovations at Founders Square and the creation of Founders Plaza just east of the police station.” They also said additional parking for the Founders Square area is being completed. Temporary busing ongoing between Carroll Avenue and Gary/Chicago Airport stations

The South Shore Line announced Monday that in order to accommodate a scheduled rail delivery in relation to the Double Track NWI project, the South Shore Line will bus midday passengers to stations between Carroll Ave. and Gary/Chicago Airport (Clark Rd.), effective Tuesday through Thursday, May 19. Suspect in custody after armed robbery at gas station in Porter County

The Town of Porter Police Department is reporting that a suspect is in custody after an armed robbery in Porter County.  Police said on Monday at around 2:30 p.m. dispatch received a 911 call about a vehicle that was stolen from a gas station in the 1400 block of West U.S. Highway 20. It was reported to dispatch that the suspect displayed a firearm. Officers from the Porter, Burns Harbor, and Chesterton Police Departments responded to the area. Pursuit ends with officer involved shooting in Lake County

Detectives from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post are investigating an officer involved shooting with the assistance of detectives from the Lowell Post that occurred on Cline Ave., just north of I-80 in Lake County. Improvements coming to Hannah’s Hope playground in Portage

The City of Portage announced Friday that Improvements are coming this summer to Hannah's Hope playground at Founders Square. The Redevelopment Commission approved a bid with Perfect Turf for $171,265 for the resurfacing of the playground. Lane closures scheduled for U.S. 12 and 169th Avenue in Lake County

Two bridge deck overlay projects will begin on or after Monday, May 16. U.S. 12/Columbus Drive over Kennedy Ave will be reduced to one lane in each direction through early August, and 169th Ave/15th Ave over State Road 912/Cline Ave will be reduced to one lane in each direction through mid-September. The outside right lanes will be closed in each direction during phase one, and the inside left lanes will be closed during phase two for both projects. Bridge deck overlays are preventative maintenance projects that prolong the life of the bridge.

Indiana Dunes State Park to host lunar eclipse party on Sunday

Indiana Dunes State Park will have a lunar eclipse party Sunday night at the beach pavilion. A Naturalist will be on hand for this special night program at the Indiana Dunes State Park Beach. La Porte County Sheriff’s Office looking for man found guilty of child molesting

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office announced in their newest edition of “Felon Friday” they are looking for a man who was found guilty Wednesday on four counts of child molesting.  In February of 2020, the LCSO began a sex offense investigation where 50-year-old David Powers II was identified as the accused. Later that same month, Powers was arrested for two counts of child molesting, as a level 1 felony and two counts of Child Molesting, as a level 4 felony.  On June 9, 2020, a cash bond was posted on behalf of Powers and he was released from the
