The City of La Porte residents looking to become certified in CPR can do so through the city's fire department, according to Fire Chief Andy Snyder.   Beginning this month and lasting through the end of this year, the department will be offering a monthly CPR class. The class is free to all LaPorte County residents, and participants walk away with their certification. Snyder said becoming certified in CPR can give people the ability and confidence to help in emergency situations.   "CPR is a great skill to have in your arsenal, regardless of your age or profession," Snyder said.

Purdue University Northwest’s (PNW) Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering will offer summer enrichment camps for middle and high school students interested in learning more about mechanical and civil engineering disciplines. The Purdue Northwest Summer Engineering Camps will take place in June and July. The 2020 Annual Report contains crime related and statistical information in the following categories: calls for service, information in the areas of offenses, arrests, crashes, citations, the Jail Division, the Warrants Division, and the Civil Division. “This year’s annual report year reveals some major reductions in certain areas of major crimes, such as robberies and burglaries. La Porte County Master Gardeners are available via Garden Hotline to help the public with a wide variety of home gardening questions.  The hotline will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until noon CDT, from April 12 through September 29, 2021. On April 8, 2021, at 2:30 AM, Deputy Jet Balenia was dispatched to the area of Wozniak Road and CR 450 North, rural Coolspring Township, reference a hit and run crash involving a fence. Upon arrival in the area, Deputy Balenia learned of a second crash that had just occurred on Wozniak Road near Surrey Lane. Surrey Lane is located approximately three (3) miles south of CR 450 North. The LaPorte County E- 911 Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call on April 7 th , 2021 at 10:23 P.M. regarding gun shots being fired at Pullman Park on the city’s west side. Multiple officers from Uniform Patrol Shift 3 responded to the scene and learned two victims had been shot. Both victim s left the scene prior to officers arriving and were transported to Franciscan Health Michigan City Hospital by third parties with non - life - threatening injuries . A Major passenger vehicle was also stopped directly in front of Deputy Wallace. HEATH A. On April 6, 2021, at 1:45 AM, Deputy Michael Sweet was stopped at the intersection of US 30 and Old US 30. After a westbound vehicle passed by him, he observed an equipment violation (traffic infraction) on the rear of the vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated by Deputy Sweet in the 6300 west block of US 30. The driver identified herself as Angela M. GAINES (27 YOA) and the front seat passenger identified himself as Paul L. A two semi crash caused I-94 to be closed for 12 hours in Lake Station on Tuesday Morning. At around 1:30 a.m., troopers from the Indiana State Police Lowell Post were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on I-94 eastbound at the 15 mile-marker.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Dodge Dart was traveling east at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a Toyota Camry.  The Toyota was traveling in the right lane when it was rear-ended.  This impact caused the Toyota to spin and come to a rest in the left lane.  Debris was scattered across the entire

Multiple officers from Uniform Patrol Shift 3 quickly responded to the scene and located two people with significant injuries. The victim was identified as a 55-year-old Michigan City female resident who was suffering from multiple stab wounds to her body. The suspect was identified as a 67-year-old Michigan City male resident who was suffering from severe head injuries. Both the victim and suspect were transported from the scene
