DRUG DEALERS CONVICTED AND SENTENCED On January 2, 2026, Michael Blassingame and Alexander Lopez were sentenced in Laporte Circuit Court for drug dealing crimes. Mr. Lopez was originally charged in 2025 with a Level 3 Felony for Dealing a Narcotic Drug. Mr. Blassingame was charged in 2023 for a Level 2 Felony for Dealing in Meth. Both cases were investigated by the Laporte County Drug Task Force (DTF). Both men entered into plea agreements with the State of Indiana. Michigan City Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on Saturday, January 3, 2025, at an apartment complex in the city. Preliminary information indicates a victim was involved in an encounter with multiple individuals that escalated into an attempted robbery. During the incident, a firearm was discharged, and the victim sustained a single, non-life-threatening gunshot wound. As a result of the investigation, one individual has been taken into custody on multiple felony-related charges. Additional arrests and charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
