Franciscan Health offering Produce Prescription Program   Franciscan Health is offering the Produce Prescription Program, aimed at assisting with chronic disease management, in Michigan City and Olympia Fields in February and March.   The program focuses on managing all chronic diseases, including but not limited to diabetes, obesity, heart disease and cancer.   Participants need not be patients within the Franciscan Health system to participate. IDHS Activates State Emergency Operations Center in Response to Winter Storm The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) was activated at Noon today, to coordinate the state's response to the incoming winter storm. This activation brings additional subject matter experts from other state agencies and external partners into one location to facilitate an effective, direct and coordinated response to the winter storm impacting the state. Indiana Governor Mike Braun also activated highway assistance teams from the Indiana National Guard to respond to some areas expecting dangerous road conditions as a result of the storm. IDHS

South Bend Man Sentenced to 57 Months in Prison For Financial Fraud   SOUTH BEND – On January 16, 2026, Verrhontez L. Williams, 40 years old, of South Bend, Indiana, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty after pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, announced United States Attorney Adam L. MIRANDA SUAREZ PLEADS GUILTY TO VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER   On January 15, 2026, Miranda Suarez entered a Guilty plea as part of a plea agreement. Ms. Suarez, appearing before Judge Jamie Oss of Superior Court 1, affirmed her involvement in the death of Kyle Suarez. On Monday, at 3:22 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 0100 south block of US 421 reference a multi-vehicle crash.  The initial on-scene investigation completed by Deputy Julian Sanchez and assisting deputies determined the following occurred.   A gold 2010 Chrysler minivan was traveling northbound on US 421.  The minivan rear-ended a northbound blue 2009 Lexus.  Following the collision, the minivan drove left of center into the southbound lane of US 421.  The minivan then collided with a southbound white 2018 Ford.   The driver of the minivan was identified as 36-year-old Jeremy D.
