Monday Mayhem on I-65 Halts Traffic Southbound Near Roselawn-ALL LANES OPEN

Jasper County- Monday afternoon at approximately 1:00 p.m., troopers responded to a vehicle fire on I-65 southbound lanes at the 231 mile-marker.  This location is one mile north of the exit to Demotte/Roselawn (exit 230). Preliminary investigation shows that a 2021 Volvo, operated by Swift Transportation, was southbound on I-65 when the driver pulled over due to a mechanical problem with the vehicle. When the vehicle stopped, the driver noticed the brakes on one side of the tractor were glowing red and started on fire. The driver attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher from her cab; however,

New Ambassador Program will Take Community Members “Behind the Scenes” of MCAS

Lane and ramp closures – 61st Avenue at I-65

In Lake County, 61st Avenue will have alternating lane closures on/after Monday, April 21 through early September for a bridge deck overlay preventative maintenance project over I-65. During phase one through early July, the outside right lanes will be closed, and traffic will be shifted to the left. Phase one will also result in the closure of the ramps from westbound 61st Avenue to southbound I-65 and eastbound 61st Avenue to northbound I-65. Motorists should utilize the ramps at Ridge Road or U.S. 30 as detours.

Ogden Dunes beach and accessways re-open

The Ogden Dunes Town Council have given a beach closure update. The town beach and accessways are re-opened to the public. There are two areas where equipment and rocks are staged, and they will be taped or fenced off for safety and security reasons. They are located near accessways #18 and #11. The Town says to please avoid entering these secured areas and do not climb on the equipment. Stairs at access #7 will be reinstalled as soon as possible. Portage Police warn of Facebook car for sale scam

Portage Police are warning of a scam Facebook post that is being shared locally. The person the page belongs to was hacked and no longer controls the page. Police say the "seller" is asking a enticingly low price for a used vehicle but says he cannot meet to complete the sale face to face for a few days. The seller then asked the potential buyer for a downpayment to be sent using Zelle or Apple Pay, promising to hold the vehicle for them even though there is not actually a vehicle for sale.
