Rolling lane closures taking place in Portage this month

The City of Portage announced that through Aug. 30, the roads listed below will have rolling lane closures as their crack sealing contractor will be filling cracks in the asphalt pavement. The City said on its Facebook page to expect delays periodically. Franciscan Health to host LaPorte County car seat safety clinics

Franciscan Health and Geminus Regional Health Systems are partnering to host two free LaPorte County car seat safety clinics in September. The first event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Central on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at the Strengthening Indiana Families LaPorte County Family Resource Center, 1232 W. State Road 2 in La Porte. State Road 2 to close near Valparaiso

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor  will close State Road 2 just west of the intersection of State Road 2 and C.R. N 400 E on or after Monday, August 7. State Road 2 will be closed through approximately the end of November for a small structure replacement. INDOT says motorists should seek an alternate route. The official detour will follow State Road 49, U.S. 6 and State Road 2.

Concrete restoration work to move to eastbound I-94 in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation will move to the next phase of concrete restoration work on I-94 between State Road 912/Cline Avenue and I-65 over the next week. La Porte County Drug Conviction

On July 28, 2023, Pedro Burgos was sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading Guilty to Dealing Fentanyl. Deputy Prosecutors Julianne Havens and Atley Price, working with the Laporte County Drug Task Force, brought this case to a success conclusion. Mr. Burgos was arrested as part of Operation Play Pen, a years-long effort to identify and disrupt networks of fentanyl coming into Laporte County. Body of man recovered from Lake Michigan in Lake County

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after the body of an 18-year-old man was pulled Saturday from Lake Michigan in Lake County Saturday. At 2:55 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to Miller Beach for a missing person presumed to be in Lake Michigan. Multiple agencies with dive teams responded to the scene to search. Search efforts were hampered due to a north wind, with three to six-foot waves creating dangerous rip currents in the area. Michigan City, Portage police participating in National Night Out

Michigan City Police Department's National Night Out will take place at Pullman Park, 550 W. 4th Street, on Tuesday, Aug. 1 beginning at 5 p.m. with a bike safety demonstration followed by a Community Bike Cruise with the MCPD Bike Unit. Thessalonica Allen Murder Trial

On July 27, 2023, a jury took less than 30 minutes to convict Thessalonica Allen for the murder of her husband, Randy Allen.  Over the course of a 4 day trial, Deputy Prosecutors Julianne Havens and Atley Price presented evidence to a jury.  The jury quickly returned a Guilty verdict on all charges. IDEM extends statewide Air Quality Action Day through Friday

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has extended the Air Quality Action Day (AQAD) forecast through Friday, July 28, for all of Indiana. Air quality is expected to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (Orange) level.
