Michigan City Awarded $500,000 EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant to Support Environmental Cleanup and Redevelopment

Armed robbery suspects apprehended in La Porte

On the evening of Saturday May 17, La Porte Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery in progress on the west side of the city. The victim, a juvenile, informed responding officers that he had been robbed at gunpoint by three individuals known to him. The victim complied with the suspects' demands for money. Police say that fortunately, he was not physically harmed during the incident. Shortly after arriving on scene, officers were able to locate and take all three suspects into custody without further incident. Police say the appears to be an isolated event,

Man arrested for intimidation, battery after standoff in La Porte County

A man was arrested on several charges after a standoff Sunday night in La Porte County. Just after 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to a residence located in the 100 block of Holly Drive in Fish Lake in reference to a disturbance. Deputies arrived and learned the accused, 27-year-old Davion C. Dunkins, may be armed with a knife and had barricaded himself inside the residence. Deputies were told Dunkins had battered two family members and threatened the same while wielding a knife. A perimeter around the residence was secured. Deputies were able to confirm that Dunkins was still inside the home.

LCSO participates in multi–state and agency US 20 Blitz again

On May 14, 99 law enforcement officers from 12 states – Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts worked a traffic safety project on U.S. 20. Four deputies participated in the project to increase traffic safety and public awareness along U.S. 20 in La Porte County. 100-year-old Franciscan Health Crown Point volunteer still going strong after nearly 50 years of service

State Road 49 to have lane closures north of I-94

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - There will be lane closures on State Road 49 between I-94 and U.S. 20 beginning on or after Monday, May 19. State Road 49 will have alternating lane closures for bridge painting and bridge deck overlay activities over the Amtrak railway just north of I-94 through mid-October. Work will begin with the left lane and shoulder of northbound State Road 49 closed through late May. South Shore Line Service Advisory: Millennium Station depot switch on Sunday

The South Shore Line has given an advisory for a depot switch at Millennium Station effective Sunday, May 18, 2025: Between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday, May 18, all South Shore Line passengers utilizing Millennium Station will temporarily board/detrain from the Metra Depot (Tracks 5 and 6), located northwest of the SSL platform. Ramp to close at I-94 and Indianapolis Boulevard interchange

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will close the ramp from eastbound I-94 to northbound State Road 152/Indianapolis Boulevard on or after Monday, May 19. The ramp will be closed for terminal joint work on the ramp bridge over U.S. 41/Indianapolis Boulevard. This operation is weather sensitive so crews will wait until the weather is favorable to close the ramp, and the closure is expected to be in place from approximately 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. All work will be completed in one evening if conditions allow. Two Michigan City motels ordered closed due to code violations

The City of Michigan City has announced that effective immediately, two motels in Michigan City—Ramada by Wyndham, located at 5820 Franklin Street, and Comfort Inn & Suites, located at 100 W. Kieffer Road—have been ordered closed indefinitely due to multiple unresolved city and fire code violations.
