Press Release, Berrien County Sheriff’s Office: BERRIEN COUNTY, MI — On October 22, 2025, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Pokagon Band Tribal Police Department, Michigan City Police Department, and the Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET-West), conducted a targeted human trafficking and sex trafficking enforcement operation in Berrien County. This multi-agency effort focused on identifying traffickers and locating and assisting victims of trafficking. In Lake County, there are overnight closures on I-94 at U.S. 6/State Road 51. The inside lanes of I-94 are closed in each direction between Clay Street and the Indiana Toll Road during the overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Oct. 24. A crane will be constructed in the median work zone for pile driving activities, which will begin on or after Monday, Oct. 27. A Chesterton resident was defrauded when looking to purchase a puppy in an online transaction, according to the Chesterton Police and the Town of Chesterton Facebook page. One person died following a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Lake County. According to the Indiana State Police, at around 10:45 a.m., troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-80 eastbound near the 6.4 mile-marker, located about 1.4 miles east of Cline Avenue in Gary. The initial investigation revealed that a white sedan was changing lanes in front of a semi tractor trailer while driving eastbound on I-80. Update-Michigan City Police Department conducting a double homicide investigation On October 19th, 2025 at 1:11 AM, the LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Johnson Road and County Road West 300 North in LaPorte. Deputies from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and learned a juvenile involved in this crash investigation was suspected of a double homicide that occurred at a residence in the 100 block of Schofield Court in Michigan City. On October 20, 2025, in the midst of Jury Selection, Jeremiah Miller pled guilty to Domestic Battery (a Level 5 Felony) in Circuit Court in Laporte. Mr. Miller was originally charged in October 2023 with Domestic Battery (Level 5 Felony) and Strangulation (Level 6 Felony), after allegedly striking his own mother. Mr. Miller will be sentenced at a later date in November. A Level 5 Felony carries a maximum penalty of 6 years.
